RAID (an acronym for redundant array of independent disk) has been around for years and is a virtual software or hardware-based that provides a solution to storing multiple disks together into a single array for easier data management which becomes useful in cases of data failure or disappearance. RAID has five top modes, 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10, to choose from, depending on your application. RAID 0 and 1 remain the most popular and economical as RAID 0 stripes data across multiple drives with no redundancy while RAID 1 mirrors data and provides the highest level of redundancy. If the best of the world combines, it becomes RAID 10. But to understand RAID 10, it is crucial to understand the basic RAID modes. |

What is RAID 10 |
||||||||||
RAID 10 means mirroring, and striping are performed in a single RAID array where it is commonly used in database and application servers as it may involve transactional activities with sensitive information. It is a practical solution if data are needed to be accessed regularly, read quickly, and provide some form of redundancy. However, it does requires a minimum of four drives, and at least 50% of usable capacity. |

RAID 10 Performance |
||||||||||
With the exception of RAID 0, there is an effect on performance. However, this effect on performance is not severe and performance remains higher than individual drives. |

RAID 10 can be achieved depending on your set-up whether it is software-based or by using a RAID card
RAID 10 and ICY DOCK Enclosure Combo
Made for High Density |
The ToughArmor MB872MP-B & MB873MP-B high-density density design provides a suitable solution for high-performance systems with limited space such as high-performance PC, home servers, workstations, and even data centers. Depending on the model, 12x M.2 drives can be utilized in a single 5.25” bay. |
Tool-less M.2 Drive Tray |
With our enclosures, drives are relocated to the frontal bay of the system with individual drive trays. ICY DOCK’s innovative drive tray is equipped with M.2 adjustable locker for tool-less drive installation/removal in seconds. Simply insert the drive, move the adjustable locker to secure the drive, and close the lid. Supported from 30-110mm drive length. |
Cooling Efficiency |
RAID drives can accumulate heat and throttle, especially NVMe drives. Therefore, each model will come equipped with at least one high-performance fan and each drive tray will come with thermal pads. |
The Bottom Line |
As the cost of drives is slowly decreasing, adding incremental storage capacity is now more affordable than before to protect your data. The top new enclosures we recommend being under RAID 10 are, ToughArmor MB872MP-B & MB873MP-B, one for high density and the other for speed under NVMe specifications. |
